The Turkish Embassy in Khartoum said on Sunday that Ambassador Fahri Türker Oba presented his credentials as Türkiye’s ambassador to the Republic of Sudan to the chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.

Photos released by the embassy showed an official welcome ceremony held for the Turkish ambassador, including a review of the guard of honor, before he handed his credentials to Burhan and shook hands with him.

With the presentation of his credentials, Oba officially begins his duties as head of Türkiye’s diplomatic mission in Sudan, at a time when Ankara is keen to strengthen its relations with Khartoum.
During the meeting, Oba affirmed that Türkiye stands with Sudan during the delicate phase it is going through, stressing the importance of preserving the country’s unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty.
He pointed to the strength of relations between the two countries in various fields and expressed his country’s readiness to work with Sudanese state institutions to develop and deepen those ties and to help alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.
Oba, who previously served as Türkiye’s ambassador to Gambia, was appointed to succeed Ambassador Fatih Yıldız under a decree signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and published in the Official Gazette on Sept. 5.
Sudan has been engulfed since April 2023 in a war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces that has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced about 13 million, according to U.N. estimates.
