An oil pipeline running near the Tal Hamis area in Syria’s northeastern Hasakah province was damaged in an act of sabotage. The Syrian Oil Company announced that the incident occurred on Wednesday.
The company dispatched maintenance and emergency response teams to the area to repair the damaged section and restore the pipeline to operation. The teams also began work to secure the site and isolate the damaged section.
Authorities identified and detained people linked to the incident. The detainees were handed over to the relevant units so that legal procedures could be completed and they could be referred to the judicial authorities.
The identities and number of the suspects, as well as the motive for the incident, were not disclosed. No information was provided on the extent of the damage to the pipeline or whether an oil spill occurred during the incident.
Oil and gas pipelines in Hasakah have been damaged before
According to statements by the Syrian Oil Company, an oil pipeline along the Tal Hamis–Abu Qadir route in the Hasakah countryside was also damaged about a month ago. In August, sabotage halted the flow through a gas export pipeline extending from the Jebsa Gas Facility in the Hasakah countryside, after which maintenance teams began repair work.

Syria aims to increase oil shipments
The company said in March that it had resumed shipments of crude oil from the Rimelan, Suwaydiyah and other fields. The efforts were intended to support refining and production and to meet domestic market needs.
Renovation of the heavy oil pipeline stretching from the Rimelan oil fields to Homs province in central Syria is also continuing. The approximately 560-kilometer pipeline is intended to transport crude oil to refineries.
