A member of Libya's House of Representatives called for action against TikTok during a session of the House in Benghazi, citing what he described as the app's dangerous effects on children.
The lawmaker said the app's risks to children had begun to be monitored and urged the relevant authorities to coordinate with the House to take action, "either by shutting it down or by bringing it under control."
The House has not yet taken a decision on the request. Libya's National Commission for Human Rights asked the Attorney General in February 2023 to ban the app, citing concerns about children, while the government denied reports in 2022 that it had been banned.
The House, which met under the chairmanship of Salheen Abdel Nabi, also approved the maritime jurisdiction memorandum with Türkiye during the same session.
