Russian President Vladimir Putin said the situation in Gaza is one of the most sensitive and urgent problems that must be resolved, adding that a lasting solution is only possible through the creation of a Palestinian state. He was speaking at the plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club’s 23rd annual meeting.

“Russia’s position on the Palestinian issue is well known. It is not subject to any current opportunistic considerations,” Putin said, adding that “the cornerstone and basis for this settlement should be the formation of a full-fledged Palestinian state,” based on all previous UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions.
