Vladimir Putin said that European countries sending troops to Ukraine would amount to war with Russia. He made the remarks to journalists during the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, the capital of India.
He linked the election result in Germany to the West’s mistakes
Putin also addressed the success of the Alternative for Germany party in parliamentary elections in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. He described the result as the consequence of systematic mistakes by the West, or, in his words, Western globalists, in the fields of politics, security and the economy.
Putin said that everyone, including Russia, had made mistakes, and argued that Western globalists had viewed themselves as being at the top of the world after the end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
He alleged that the West was increasing pressure on Russia
Putin alleged that the West was constantly seeking to increase pressure on Russia, saying attempts had been made against Russia in the Caucasus through terrorists and separatists, while pressure was now being applied through Ukraine.
Putin argued that the crisis in Ukraine had been provoked by the West and that its main objective was to bring Kyiv into NATO. He held Western globalists responsible for the tragic events in the country and said the West had placed that responsibility on Russia.
He rejected claims that Russia posed a threat to Europe
Putin said Europe had stopped buying natural gas from Russia and turned to other sources at higher costs, arguing that Europe’s elites were frightening their citizens with talk of a “Russian threat.”
Putin said Russia had not threatened European countries and had no such intention, adding that Moscow had no reason to enter into conflict with Europe.
Putin also said that all issues had been resolved through the outcomes of World War II, while events following the dissolution of the Soviet Union had taken place with Russia’s approval. He argued that steps contrary to these agreements conflicted with Russia’s interests and the United Nations Charter.
Russia has continued its military assault on Ukraine since February 24, 2022, while Moscow requires Kyiv to abandon joining Western military structures as a condition for ending the attacks. Kyiv views this approach as interference in its internal affairs.
