The works of Irish author Rooney will be withdrawn from sale in England because of her public support for Palestine Action. Faber, the publisher in England and Ireland, said the decision was made with Rooney’s full approval and that the books would continue to be sold in other countries.
Faber halts sales in England
Faber said that, under current English legislation, revenue from Rooney’s book sales in the country could not be transferred to the author. The publisher said it was unacceptable for an author to be unable to benefit from revenue generated by the sale of their works.
Following a consultation and review process, Faber decided, with Rooney’s full approval, not to offer the books for sale in England in any format. Rooney also said that, as a result of the decision, she would no longer receive royalty income from book sales in England.

Continued support for Palestine Action
Rooney said that England designated Palestine Action a terrorist organisation in July 2025 and that she wrote an opinion article the following month stating that she would continue to support the group.
The author said fulfilling contracts for the publication of her works in England could constitute a serious criminal offence. Rooney, who said she would continue to support the group despite England’s ban, argued that organisations financing its activities should also be investigated.
Support for Palestine and opposition to arms for Israel
Palestine Action is a pro-Palestinian group known for actions targeting facilities in England belonging to companies that supply weapons to Israel, particularly those of Israeli defence company Elbit Systems. The English government designated the group a terrorist organisation in July 2025 after its members entered Brize Norton Air Base in June 2025 and damaged military aircraft. Following the ban, numerous people carrying banners expressing support for the group were arrested.
Rooney is known for her outspoken support for the Palestinian cause. In 2021, the author said she supported the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel and refused to grant the Hebrew translation rights for one of her novels to an Israeli publisher.
She will donate BBC adaptation royalties to the group
Last year, Rooney announced that she would use the royalties from BBC adaptations of two of her novels to continue supporting Palestine Action.
The author, who feared being arrested, also cancelled a planned trip to England to receive an award.
