Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tariq met in the Saudi city of Jeddah on Tuesday to discuss efforts to preserve security and stability in the region.
The meeting also addressed relations between Saudi Arabia and Oman, as well as existing opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation in various fields.
Regional efforts to ease tensions
Bin Salman and Haitham bin Tariq assessed the latest developments in the region and efforts to maintain security and stability.
Along with Oman, Qatar and Pakistan are working to reduce regional tensions and facilitate the resumption of negotiations between Tehran and Washington. These efforts are continuing as problems persist in implementing the first ceasefire agreement signed in June and efforts continue to bring the war to a permanent end.
Dispute over navigation in the Strait of Hormuz
The Strait of Hormuz, a key passage for oil exports and global supply chains, was closed following the US and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28.
Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding on June 18 regarding freedom of navigation. However, disputes over the strait's security and the regulation of maritime traffic have caused problems in implementing the memorandum.
