Saudi Arabia strongly condemned the Houthis’ declaration of a naval blockade against the country. The Riyadh administration announced it would take the necessary steps against this move within the framework of international law.
In a statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry condemned the Houthis’ accusation that Saudi Arabia is blockading the Yemeni people, citing the words of an official described as a “military spokesman for the terrorist militias.” The statement said, “The Kingdom will take all necessary measures to protect its ships in accordance with the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and international law.”
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree had previously said on the Al-Masirah TV channel, “The Yemeni armed forces are imposing a naval ban on Saudi Arabia in accordance with the principle of responding to a blockade with a blockade.” Saree stated that this ban “will come into effect from the moment of the announcement.”
