Feridun Sinirlioğlu, secretary-general of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and former Turkish foreign minister, presented his vision for leading the United Nations in a document titled “Sustaining Multilateralism and Building Bridges,” attached to his candidacy for secretary-general of the international organization.
“The roots of conflicts lie in my region”
Sinirlioğlu said: “At this critical juncture in history, I believe the United Nations needs a secretary-general who understands the dynamics behind the major conflicts of today. Many of these conflicts have their roots in the broader region where I was born and raised, but their effects extend across the entire world.”

He stressed that the United Nations’ mission is not limited to resolving crises but also includes preventing them, calling for stronger organizational capacities in early warning, mediation and peacebuilding, as well as cooperation with regional organizations based on regional ownership and burden-sharing.
Supporting the most vulnerable countries
The Turkish candidate stressed the need to strengthen efforts to address the structural challenges facing least developed countries, landlocked developing countries and small island developing states, describing this as a moral responsibility and a strategic investment in global peace and stability.
He also called for the United Nations to continue its leading role in advancing global food security and for reforms that would make it more flexible, transparent and accountable. If elected, he pledged to serve all member states impartially.
