Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said on Saturday that 2030 will mark the end of his time in office. “The year 2030 will be the end of my term as head of state, and this is completely settled,” he said at a graduation ceremony for new classes of the Egyptian Military Academy and military colleges.
Sisi reiterated that Egypt’s constitution “will not be touched.” His remarks followed social media reports suggesting the constitution could be amended in 2027 to allow him another term. Under the current constitution, he cannot run again after his third term ends in 2030.
Preparing future leaders

Sisi said the Military Academy would spend “the next 30 months” preparing cadres to lead the country after his term ends, adding that “people 100 times better than me will be prepared.” He said that “whoever takes power will not be a traitor or an agent.”
He rejected any form of hereditary succession or favoritism, pledging not to bring relatives or family members into the country’s leadership. “My duty is to preserve the state and hand over its banner raised high,” he said.
A smooth transition
Sisi, 71, who has been in power since 2014, described the armed forces as “the shield and sword of the nation” and said the priority in the coming period is consolidating state institutions and empowering young national cadres to ensure a smooth transition.
In the same speech, Sisi called on the House of Representatives to hold an emergency session to authorize him to take the necessary measures to defend Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states if they request it from Egypt.
