Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said he had repeatedly told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that establishing a Palestinian state would bring lasting peace and stability to the region and benefit everyone.
Sisi made the remarks Thursday at the 2026 graduation ceremony of the Police Academy in New Cairo, east of Cairo. In remarks released by the presidency, he addressed the Palestinian issue as well as the security of the Arab world and regional developments.
Support for a Palestinian state
The Egyptian president said he had told Netanyahu in all their meetings and phone calls since 2014 that establishing a Palestinian state would benefit everyone. Sisi said such a step would contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region.

Netanyahu, however, has said in various statements that he opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state envisioned in relevant United Nations resolutions. The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for him over alleged war crimes in Gaza.
The background to the Palestinian issue includes the displacement of at least 750,000 Palestinians during Israel’s establishment in 1948 and the occupation of the remaining Palestinian territories in 1967. Israel refuses to withdraw from those territories.
Emphasis on stability in Gaza, Sudan and Libya
Sisi said stability in Sudan, Libya and Gaza was essential not only to Egypt but also to the national security of the Arab world. He said the region was undergoing major and profound geopolitical changes and warned that these transformations would have consequences for the region.
Security of Egypt and Saudi Arabia
The Egyptian president said Egypt and Saudi Arabia were located at the center of the Arab and Islamic worlds. Sisi said harm to either country would affect the other, adding that the national security of Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states was interconnected.

Since October 5, Yemen’s Houthis have carried out attacks on five airports and some areas in Saudi Arabia, killing 20 people and injuring hundreds. The attacks caused material damage and disrupted air transport.
Sisi said targeting Saudi Arabia in this way affected Egypt’s and the Arab world’s national security. He said Egypt would not accept any intervention targeting Saudi Arabia’s security and borders, adding that the security of the Red Sea and international maritime routes must be protected.
Sisi said Egypt’s priority was Saudi Arabia’s security and stability and reducing tensions. He said risks existed along his country’s southern and western borders and added that Egypt was working to prevent conflict from breaking out in Sudan.
