At least six people were killed and 28 others injured on Friday in an armed attack on a Greek Orthodox church in Hamoud, Karak Governorate, about 120 kilometers south of the capital, Amman, during a funeral procession, a spokesperson for Jordan's Public Security Directorate said.
Al-Mamlaka TV's initial reports said at least seven people had been killed. The toll could still change.
Survivors said two masked gunmen got out of a vehicle and that those present heard an explosion as the funeral procession began. The attackers then entered the church, opened fire for several minutes and fled. One mourner said one attacker was carrying a pistol and the other a rifle.

Between 150 and 200 people were inside and around the church. Most of the victims were between 50 and 70 years old, and one victim's relative said three of them were doctors.
Attackers pursued
Security forces were deployed around the church and are pursuing the two suspects. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and the authorities have not disclosed the identities of the perpetrators.
Attacks of this kind are extremely rare in Jordan, where around 300,000 Christians live among a population of 11.5 million. In December 2016, Karak witnessed an attack claimed by Daesh that targeted its historic castle and killed 10 people.
