The collapse of a six-story residential building damaged during the war in southwestern Gaza City caused deaths in an area that includes displaced Palestinians. Nine Palestinians were killed and 14 injured in the incident on Wednesday.
The collapsed building fell onto an area containing tents where displaced Palestinians were sheltering. Dozens of people were trapped under the rubble.
Rescue efforts at the site
Rescue teams have been trying to reach those trapped under the rubble since the morning. However, a shortage of heavy machinery and the rescue equipment needed is hindering the operation.
Residents said that more than 60 people, most of them displaced Palestinians, had been living in the damaged building, which had cracks. The building sustained damage during Israeli bombardment.
Death toll rises in Gaza
According to data from Gaza's Health Ministry, 1,375 Palestinians have been killed and 4,686 injured in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire took effect in October 2025.
Since October 7, 2023, the number of Palestinians killed in Gaza has reached approximately 74,000, while more than 174,000 have been injured.
