According to Israel's Channel 13, the reported agreement between Washington and Tehran was met with surprise in Israel. Unnamed Israeli officials argued that the deal puts Tel Aviv in a difficult position, describing the development as "Israel being thrown under the bus."
A senior Israeli official quoted in the report described the US-Iran agreement as "shocking from Israel's perspective." The same official said Israel had long believed that the US-Iran negotiations would end in failure.
Lebanon Issue Raised in Cabinet
Channel 13 also claimed that on June 14, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Vice President JD Vance held a tense phone call discussing Israel's military presence in Lebanon. According to the report, some provisions of the agreed deal with Iran were also discussed during the call.
An Israeli official stated that the Israeli army will not withdraw from Lebanon but that every future military operation will be reassessed. Channel 13 also reported that a senior US official said the agreement does not include Israel withdrawing from southern Lebanon and that Tel Aviv will maintain its "right to self-defense."
Meanwhile, Channel 15 reported that some ministers in Israel's Security Cabinet have requested Prime Minister Netanyahu to continue operations in Lebanon and to bring more areas under control.
According to the report, Netanyahu said in the cabinet meeting that their main goal is to "maintain freedom of movement even under the most intense pressure," adding, "There will be immunity both in Beirut and Tehran." Israel Defense Chief Eyal Zamir stated at the meeting that the army will not pull back from the border line and that soldiers will not be put at risk.
Channel 15's report also noted that some cabinet members criticized US President Donald Trump during the meeting for "making concessions in exchange for oil and money." Netanyahu had previously stated that he was not aware of the details of the US-Iran agreement but would maintain their stance of holding control over areas in Lebanon.
