The Sudanese army announced that it had taken full control of the town of Al-Mazroub in North Kordofan state after clashes with the Rapid Support Forces.
Mohammed Daydan, a spokesperson for the army’s special forces, described the capture of Al-Mazroub as a significant development because of the town’s connection between North Kordofan and West Kordofan. Daydan said the move would contribute to efforts to cut the Rapid Support Forces’ supply routes.
Daydan also said the advance in the town marked a major turning point in the ongoing fighting in the Kordofan region.
Route for advancing toward West Kordofan
Al-Mazroub is located in northwestern North Kordofan, about 90 kilometers west of Bara.

The local Dar Hamar Emergency Response Room also announced that the town had been captured by the army. The organization’s spokesperson, Azzam Hamid, said taking control of Al-Mazroub would facilitate the army’s advance toward West Kordofan state.
Army’s advance in North Kordofan
Army personnel released videos announcing that Al-Mazroub had been brought under control. The army had announced on September 26 that it had captured the Umm Sharo area in North Kordofan. A day earlier, it said it had taken control of Sodari and inflicted heavy losses on the Rapid Support Forces.

The Sudanese army said it had recently made advances across large parts of North Kordofan and controlled 11 areas in the state.
Ongoing war in Sudan
Fighting between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in North, West and South Kordofan has continued since October 25 last year.
While the war in Sudan has continued since April 2023, tens of thousands of people have been killed and approximately 13 million displaced, according to United Nations figures and international estimates.
