Three people have been charged for shouting racist slogans against Arabs at a nightclub in France. The incident in Rodez, in the Aveyron department, sparked outrage after videos surfaced on social media in June.
According to French media reports, the three individuals gave statements to police this week. In their defense, they claimed they acted "under the influence of alcohol and without any political motive."
Court date set
Rodez Public Prosecutor Nicolas Rigaud-Muller announced that the three defendants will appear in court on February 17, 2027, on charges of "inciting racial hatred."
What happened?
The incident occurred on June 5 at a nightclub in Rodez. The suspects allegedly chanted "Marine to power, Arabs to the slaughterhouse," a reference to far-right French politician Marine Le Pen.
The spread of video recordings containing the racist remarks on social media caused widespread anger. Subsequently, Laurent Alexandre, a deputy for the left-wing La France Insoumise party in Aveyron, filed a legal complaint.
Following the complaint, authorities launched an investigation on June 20 on charges of "inciting hatred and violence." As part of the investigation, three suspects were taken into custody and questioned.
