US President Donald Trump announced that China and Russia assured him they would not sell arms to Iran. In a social media post, Trump stated that he received these commitments during talks with the leaders of the two countries.
Trump said that Chinese President Xi Jinping told him during a meeting in Beijing that under no circumstances would he give or sell arms to Iran, and that this also applies to Chinese companies. Trump said, "Considering our relations, I trust his word. Moreover, I am doing him very big favors."
He noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin also promised not to sell arms to Iran "despite the ongoing terrible war in Ukraine." Trump said, "(Putin) knows I sell arms to NATO countries, not to Ukraine."
Trump emphasized that NATO countries pay full price for the arms and that he has no idea how they are distributed. He continued, "Although it is often said, I think the two big countries are not involved in this (arms sales to Iran). If they were, it would be very bad for them. It would definitely not be in their interests."
