As tensions between Iran and the United States continue around the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. President Donald Trump said the strategic waterway would be renamed “Trump Strait.”
Speaking at a Republican Party convention in Dallas, Texas, Trump claimed that the war with Iran was continuing and that the United States was winning it. Trump said oil prices would fall once the war was won, claimed that the United States controlled the Strait of Hormuz and said the Iranian government would be pleased with the new name.
Trump claimed that Iran had “fallen apart,” asserting that the country had bullied the Middle East for 51 years but no longer held that position.
The U.S. president also warned that they could target the Pickaxe Mountain area in Iran. Trump said they had received information about activity in the area and stated that they might have to deliver a “very harsh” response to Iran.
Trump also said they could not allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon. The remarks came as a June agreement envisaging the reopening of the strategic waterway and laying the groundwork for a broader peace deal remained in place.
