Speaking as the ongoing war with Iran increases regional tensions, U.S. President Donald Trump said that “major developments” could occur in the near future if Tehran does not change its position.
In a television interview, Trump listed his options regarding Iran, saying they included completely destroying the country, allowing its economy to collapse or reaching an agreement. “They have to behave better,” Trump said, reiterating his tough stance toward Iran.
Possibility of a meeting with Pezeshkian
Responding to a question about the United Nations General Assembly’s high-level week, Trump said he would “probably be open” to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
The high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly is being held from September 18 to 28 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The general debate is scheduled to take place from September 22 to 28.
Claim of communication with the Houthis
Trump said Washington had been in constant communication with Yemen’s Houthis following the latest ballistic missile attacks targeting Saudi Arabia. Claiming that the Houthis had agreed to avoid clashing with U.S. forces, Trump commented on other conflicts in the region.
Trump had previously claimed that the war with Iran would end after the midterm elections in November.
