The decision to ban trade with Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories will be discussed in a meeting that U.S. President Donald Trump said he would hold with Israel.
Trump answered reporters’ questions on Wednesday while traveling from Washington to Texas. Saying he had just seen the decision, Trump said he understood what had happened but wanted to learn why such a step had been taken now.
Asked whether the United States supported the initiative, Trump said he would discuss the matter with Israel and hear its position.
In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, the foreign ministers of Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom said they would take steps to ban trade in products from illegal Israeli settlements established in the occupied Palestinian territories.
