Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan was targeted in Iranian attacks, damaging several US military aircraft.
Approximately eight F-15 fighter jets sustained minor damage in the attack and were later returned to service. An A-10 Thunderbolt was also hit and lost a wing.
Patriot missiles used at the base
US forces fired more than 30 Patriot missiles to defend against the attacks. No US casualties were reported in connection with the strikes.
The development came after the United States announced on Tuesday that it had struck five Iranian-owned tankers in response to an attack on a US Navy vessel.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps later announced that it had carried out attacks on eight tankers, two warships and the US base in Jordan.
Concerns over Patriot stockpiles
The attacks came as US officials expressed concern over rapidly declining stocks of Patriot missiles and falling reserves of other precision-guided munitions.
