Türkiye’s Ambassador to Somalia Ferhat Alkan was received by House of the People Speaker Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur as part of courtesy visits to Somali state institutions. The two discussed joint work to strengthen Türkiye-Somalia parliamentary cooperation and reciprocal visits, the embassy said. Alkan also toured the current parliament building, which was built by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).

Nur was elected speaker on Aug. 10, 2026, by 142 votes to 30, after serving as defense minister and as minister of ports and maritime transport. Alkan, previously Türkiye’s ambassador to Mozambique, took up his post in Mogadishu on Sept. 21.

Warsheikh, investors and aid

Alkan met Warsheikh District Commissioner Mohamed Hassan Matan to discuss cooperation projects. In Warsheikh, his first stop outside Mogadishu, Türkiye has repaired a school and is building hospital annexes, with a soup kitchen and orphanage planned. He also met Süleyman Kozuva, chairman of Kozuva Group, whose subsidiary Favori Airports operates Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport, and an IHH delegation that has expanded scholarships for Somali students this year.

In a separate meeting with Acting U.N. Assistant Secretary-General Qurat-ul-Ain Sadozai, head of the U.N. Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), Alkan discussed UNSOS logistical support to the African Union mission AUSSOM and Somali security forces, the office’s future and Türkiye-U.N. cooperation on Somalia.
