Turkish intelligence chief Kalın, Shaibani discuss SDF integration and anti-ISIS coordination
Turkish intelligence chief İbrahim Kalın met Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani in Ankara to discuss bilateral ties, regional stability, the integration process after the SDF’s dissolution and continued coordination against ISIS.
İbrahim Kalın, head of Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MİT), met Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani in Ankara on Thursday.
According to Turkish security sources, the talks covered Türkiye-Syria relations and areas of cooperation, relations with neighboring countries and regional stability.
After the SDF’s dissolution
The two sides assessed the state of the integration process following the dissolution of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and stressed continued coordination in the fight against terrorist groups such as ISIS.
Earlier the same day, Shaibani met Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara to discuss activating the countries’ High Joint Committee, and also met U.S. envoy Tom Barrack in Istanbul, as the Syrian flag was officially raised in Hasakah’s Peace Square.
