Four Turkish civil society organizations have launched a comprehensive humanitarian aid campaign for Lebanon, which has been shaken by Israeli attacks and a deep economic crisis. In cooperation with the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, Sadakataşı Association, Yetim Foundation and Yeryüzü Çocukları Association, 1.2 billion Turkish Liras worth of supplies have been delivered to the region since October 7, 2023.
The aid was transported to Lebanon on five separate ships. The 205 containers included food, hygiene products, beds, blankets and basic living supplies. Additionally, 288 tons of frozen meat from animals sacrificed during Eid al-Adha were brought to the Port of Beirut. It was stated that this meat will be distributed to more than 800,000 people, primarily in refugee camps and displaced families across the country.
Humanitarian crisis in Lebanon
Over the past 1.5 years, more than 4,300 civilians have been killed and over 12,000 Lebanese injured in Israeli attacks. While thousands of buildings and public spaces in southern Lebanon have been completely destroyed, more than 1.2 million people have been forced to flee to the north of the country. Amid this humanitarian tragedy, deepened by the economic crisis, the aid from Turkish NGOs provides vital support to millions of Lebanese families.
