The ongoing trial in Türkiye concerning the attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla has entered a new phase after formal procedures began to seek Red Notices in order to pursue Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Avik Moskovich internationally.
Turkish Justice Minister Akın Gürlek said the trial was continuing before the Istanbul 11th High Criminal Court in case No. 2026/108, which involves 35 defendants, including Netanyahu and Moskovich.
Formal request to seek a Red Notice
According to Gürlek's statements, arrest warrants were issued for Netanyahu and Moskovich on July 14, 2026.
In a new step, a request was submitted to the Turkish Interior Ministry to take the necessary measures to seek Red Notices for the defendants and pursue them internationally. The relevant documents were also sent to the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
Thus, the ongoing judicial proceedings in Türkiye against Netanyahu have entered a phase involving the start of international pursuit procedures.
Trial linked to the attack on the Sumud Flotilla
The case centers on the intervention targeting the Global Sumud Flotilla while it was in international waters. The flotilla had set out to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu and the other defendants are being tried on serious charges including crimes against humanity, genocide, aggravated deprivation of liberty, intentional injury, torture and ill-treatment, property damage, aggravated looting, as well as charges related to the kidnapping or detention of means of transport.
Previous arrest warrants for Netanyahu
Türkiye's judicial proceedings against Netanyahu saw a significant development in 2025, when Turkish judicial authorities issued arrest warrants for 37 Israeli officials, including Netanyahu, as part of investigations into allegations of crimes against humanity and genocide.
In addition to Netanyahu, the list included Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and several senior Israeli military officials.
Interpol has the final say on a Red Notice
The start of Türkiye's procedures to seek a Red Notice does not mean that the International Criminal Police Organization, known as Interpol, has already issued a Red Notice for Netanyahu.
The Turkish request will be subject to Interpol's procedures and rules before a decision is made.
Therefore, at the current stage, the most legally accurate wording is that Türkiye has begun formal procedures to request a Red Notice for Netanyahu, not that a Red Notice has already been issued.
Meanwhile, the trial continues before the Istanbul 11th High Criminal Court.
