Türkiye issued its official response to the provocative storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israel's far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. The Foreign Ministry announced that it condemned 'in the strongest terms' the action carried out by the Israeli minister accompanied by an extremist group and under the protection of Israeli security forces.
In its statement, the ministry noted that it is the shared responsibility of the international community to prevent such provocative actions and attempts to create faits accomplis by the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which violate the historical and legal status of holy sites in Jerusalem, foremost among them Al-Aqsa Mosque, which belongs exclusively to Muslims.
AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik said in a post on his social media account, 'We condemn the disrespect towards Al-Aqsa Mosque by a member of the genocidal network headed by Netanyahu.' Çelik stated that protecting the legal and historical status of Al-Aqsa Mosque is the responsibility of all humanity.
Communications Director Burhanettin Duran strongly condemned the storming, saying, 'No attempt targeting the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque is acceptable.' Duran added, 'Such unilateral steps by the genocidal Netanyahu government aimed at eroding the historical and legal status of Jerusalem further escalate tensions in the region and harm hopes for lasting peace.'
Duran stressed that, as President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has stated on every occasion, preserving the historical status of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque is not only a regional but a shared responsibility of the international community. He added that Türkiye will continue to resolutely defend the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and the rights of Jerusalem based on international law.
