Renewed fighting in Yemen has disrupted maritime shipping routes and led to the displacement of civilians. The United Nations also condemned the Houthis’ ongoing cross-border attacks against Saudi Arabia.
UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said they were deeply concerned about the military escalation around Yemen and inside the country. Dujarric said the attacks in the Taiz, Lahij and Ma’rib regions had severe consequences for civilians in Yemen and across the region.
Dujarric also criticized reported attempts to target Riyadh. The UN spokesperson said the cross-border attacks targeted civilian areas and vital energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, and called on all parties to exercise restraint.
Civilians were injured in recent attacks in southern Saudi Arabia. The UN stressed the need to prevent further military escalation.
