United Arab Emirates appoint Zlatko Dalić as national team coach
The United Arab Emirates Football Association appointed 59-year-old Croatian coach Zlatko Dalić as head coach of the national team on Wednesday. Dalić led Croatia to the 2018 World Cup final and guided the team to third place at the 2022 World Cup.
The United Arab Emirates Football Association announced on Wednesday that Croatian coach Zlatko Dalić had been appointed head coach of the national team.
Fifty-nine-year-old Dalić has begun a new chapter in the United Arab Emirates following the dismissal of Romanian coach Cosmin Olăroiu. Olăroiu left his position after failing to lead the United Arab Emirates to the 2026 World Cup finals.
Dalić’s tenure with Croatia
Dalić stepped down as Croatia coach after the team was eliminated in the round of 32 following a 2-1 defeat by Portugal at the 2026 World Cup.
Under Dalić, Croatia reached the 2018 World Cup final. The Croatian side finished third at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and reached the final of the 2023 UEFA Nations League.
Second coaching spell in the United Arab Emirates
Dalić will begin his second coaching stint in United Arab Emirates football. The Croatian coach managed Al Ain from 2014 to 2017.
During his time at Al Ain, Dalić won league and cup titles in the United Arab Emirates and also led the team to the 2016 AFC Champions League final.
