A new era began in the management of the Qatar Football Association after the resignations. The Executive Board appointed Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani to the vacant presidency and Sheikh Tamim bin Mohammed Al Thani as vice president.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani currently serves as Qatar's Minister of Youth and Sports. He previously held the presidency of the association from 2005 to 2023 and is a member of the FIFA Member Associations Committee and the FIFA Executive Committee.
The new appointments were made after the resignations of former president Jassim bin Rashid Al Buainain and his deputy Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Suwaidi. The decisions require approval from the general assembly, which will convene in September, to become official.
The executive board meeting also reviewed the performance of the Qatar national team at the 2026 World Cup and discussed preparations for the new season. Decisions included adding a third division to the domestic league system and allowing Al-Rayyan Club to participate in age-group tournaments starting from the current season.
