Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that the US carried out a cruise missile attack on Golestan province in the north of the country. The strike targeted the vicinity of the Agh Tekeh Khan Bridge in the Ak Kale district in the early hours of Thursday, July 9.
In a statement, the IRGC's Neynava Corps said there were no casualties in the attack. The statement called on residents to remain calm and warned that the US would face an 'overwhelming response'.
The IRGC also reported that the US carried out attacks targeting civilian infrastructure in southern Iran on the same day, and that one person was killed in those strikes.
Iran retaliates against US bases
In response to the attacks in the south, Iran launched a missile and drone operation against US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. The IRGC announced that its naval and air forces struck critical infrastructure at the Arifjan and Ali Al-Salem bases in Kuwait, and the Juffair and Sheikh Isa bases in Bahrain.
Following the retaliatory operation, the IRGC reiterated its threat that if the US shows further aggression, other bases in the region would be targeted with more extensive and overwhelming responses.
