Clashes broke out between the Yemen army and the Iran-backed Houthis in Al-Wazi'iyah, west of Taiz. The Yemen army announced that 30 Houthis were killed and about 60 people wounded in the fighting.
The Taiz Front Media Center, affiliated with the Yemen army, announced that six military vehicles and two tanks belonging to the Houthis had been destroyed.
The center said government warplanes targeted Houthi military vehicles and gathering points, providing air support to forces on the ground.
Targets in Taiz and along the Red Sea
The Yemen army said Houthi supply lines and positions had been targeted in Taiz and in the city of Mokha, part of Taiz province, near the Bab al-Mandab Strait in the southern Red Sea.
It also said a previous Houthi attack in Taiz had been repelled, while the group's positions and reinforcements were targeted.
The Yemen army has recently intensified attacks on Houthi positions and gathering points in several provinces, particularly Taiz.
Yemen's battlefield is shifting
The clashes that have escalated again in Yemen since July have changed the map of control on the ground.
After establishing control over the entire Hudaydah province, the Houthis advanced west of Taiz and seized cities such as Mokha on the Red Sea coast, along with routes providing access to the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
After Mokha, the Houthis also seized the Hanish Islands, Mayyun Island and Zubab around the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a development that brought a significant change to the battlefield.
