The Yemen army said more than 200 Houthi members were killed or wounded in clashes between government forces and the Houthis in Taiz province in southwestern Yemen.
According to a statement by the Taiz military axis, the clashes began on Wednesday morning on the Dabab front west of the city and the Akruz and Shaqab fronts to the south. The statement said the clashes intensified in the afternoon.
The statement said an armed Houthi convoy and a vehicle were destroyed, two tanks were put out of service and a drone belonging to the group was shot down.
Airstrikes around Taiz
Warplanes targeted a Houthi convoy consisting of tanks, various military vehicles and transporters in the Ras al-Najd area of Al-Misrah district, west of Taiz.

The statement said two airstrikes were carried out against Houthi positions on Suftil Hill, east of Taiz city. In the evening, a tank and a vehicle were targeted on the Dabab front west of the city.
The Houthis have not yet issued a statement on the casualties and operations announced by the Yemen army.

Military escalation in Yemen
The clashes in Taiz were the latest in a series of recurring confrontations between government forces and the Houthis as part of Yemen’s yearslong war. The operations took place on the 10th day of the “Yemen Dawn” military operation, which Yemen Presidential Leadership Council President Rashad al-Alimi said aims to restore state institutions and take control of the capital, Sana’a.
Yemen has experienced a broader military escalation since July compared with the relatively calm period that followed the ceasefire that began in April 2022. The Houthis have controlled the capital, Sana’a, and several Yemeni provinces since September 2014.
A military coalition led by Saudi Arabia intervened in March 2015 to support the Yemeni government.
