The Shabwa Defense Forces affiliated with Yemen’s government announced that they had conducted an operation targeting Houthi positions and strongholds on the Herib front in Marib province.
The operation, carried out on Friday evening, followed a drone strike that killed two of their members. The forces said the operation was extensive and targeted several Houthi positions.
Command-and-control centers targeted
The Shabwa Defense Forces said that several Houthi command-and-control centers were destroyed during the operation. They also claimed that the Houthis suffered casualties and material losses, but did not provide figures for those losses.
The Houthis have not yet issued a statement on the operation or the casualties.
Fighting continues on Yemen’s fronts
Intermittent clashes have taken place between government forces and the Houthis on various fronts in Yemen since the beginning of July. Dozens of people on both sides are said to have been killed or wounded in the clashes.
Yemen, where the war has continued for approximately 12 years, has experienced relative calm since April 2022. Clashes between government forces backed by the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthis, who are described as being supported by Iran, have continued as the Houthis have maintained control of the capital, Sanaa, and several provinces since September 21, 2014.
