Yemen's Ministry of Human Rights held the Houthis responsible for attacks affecting civilians in the governorates of Taiz, Hudaydah and Marib. According to the ministry's statement, 150 civilians had been killed and more than 200 people injured since September 3.
The ministry condemned the Houthis' military escalation and violations in the areas, saying the attacks involved ballistic missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles and artillery fire using various weapons.
Displacement camps also targeted in attacks
The Yemeni government said the attacks were not limited to residential areas, but also targeted camps housing displaced people and convoys of civilians moving away from areas of conflict.
It said about 85,000 people had been displaced and that numerous homes and properties had been destroyed. Families were left without shelter, livelihoods and basic necessities, while around 2,000 people reached Djibouti because of the humanitarian impact of the escalation.
The Ministry of Human Rights called on the international community, the United Nations, the Human Rights Council and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to take urgent action to stop attacks on civilians.
The ministry also called for the protection of displaced people, camps, evacuation convoys and medical facilities. The statement demanded the release of people who had been abducted and arbitrarily detained, as well as information about the fate of those who were missing.
Control shifts along Yemen's front lines
The Yemeni government announced that its forces had made gains in Al Jawf governorate near the Saudi border and were approaching the governorate's capital, Al Hazm. Government forces also said they had repelled a major attack on Marib.
Government forces said airstrikes had been carried out against Houthi targets around Mokha and in the governorates of Taiz, Lahij and Al Dhale'e. The statement said military vehicles and weapons had been destroyed.
The Houthis announced that they had taken control of some districts along the country's western coast, as well as several islands in the Red Sea, including Perim Island, also known as Mayyun Island, in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
Clashes between government forces and the Houthis intensified again from early July 2026 after years of relative calm.
The war in Yemen began after the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, and several governorates in September 2014. The Saudi-led Arab coalition intervened in March 2015 to support the internationally recognized government.
