In Yemen’s southern Lahij province, the Homeland Shield Forces announced that an operation had been conducted against the summit of Mount Numan and the Dar al-Kafir area, which overlook the supply routes between Wazi’iyah and Mudharibah.
Mount Numan’s strategic importance stems from its control over the transit and supply routes between Mudharibah and Wazi’iyah. The Homeland Shield Forces’ Media Office said the Houthis had used the mountain to monitor nearby villages and positions and to launch attacks.
Details of the operation in Lahij
According to the Media Office’s statement, the operation began at night with a controlled infiltration. After the area was encircled, the positions were entered in the morning.
The statement said Houthi-affiliated elements had been forced to withdraw from the area after the operation, suffering casualties and leaving weapons and ammunition behind.
It said the capture of Mount Numan’s summit would contribute to the security of villages in Wadi Mudharibah and the area around Wazi’iyah. The statement also said the operation would reduce the Houthis’ sources of threats and attacks and cut off one of their important infiltration routes.
The course of the conflict in Yemen
The renewed escalation of fighting in Yemen since July has led to significant changes in the map of control on the ground.
After establishing control over the entirety of Hudaydah province, the Houthis advanced west of Taiz. During this advance, they captured the Red Sea coastal city of Mokha and routes providing access to the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Following Mokha, the Hanish Islands, Mayyun Island and Zubab, located around the Bab al-Mandab Strait, also came under Houthi control, causing a significant shift in the conflict zone.
