It was reported that the injured include citizens of Qatar, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kenya, Guinea, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Nepal. All injured received necessary medical care and are in stable condition, with no life-threatening injuries.
Cause of the incident under investigation
The minister said the explosion and fire occurred last night around 22:30 at the facility operated by QatarEnergy LNG, which is intended to meet local gas demand.
Al-Kaabi emphasized that what happened was an accident, not sabotage or a hostile act. He stated the factory had been closed since last December for necessary repairs and had resumed operations just two days ago.
Gas exports unaffected
The Qatari Energy Minister stressed that this incident will in no way affect the country's liquefied natural gas exports. It was shared that other export facilities, Ras Laffan Port, and logistical operations were not affected by the fire.
Al-Kaabi praised the efforts of QatarEnergy's emergency response teams and the Qatari Civil Defense forces, who brought the fire under full control at dawn today.
Comprehensive investigation launched
It was announced that a comprehensive and full-scale investigation has been launched to determine the exact causes of the explosion. QatarEnergy expressed its determination to provide full support to everyone affected by this tragedy.
The Qatari Ministry of Interior also issued a statement, announcing that relevant security units initiated procedures on the ground immediately after the incident. The ministry stated that approved plans were implemented to complete search and rescue operations and ensure the safety of all personnel.
It was noted that technical and legal procedures are ongoing to determine the circumstances and exact causes of the incident, and no leakage posing a risk to individuals or environmental safety has been detected.
