Syrian minister of Awqaf: Our experience offers a practical model for rapprochement
The Syrian delegation is headed by Minister of Awqaf Muhammad Abu al-Khair Shukri, who told SANA that Syria’s experience offers “a practical model for strengthening rapprochement and unifying Islamic discourse.” He noted that the Charter for the Unity of Islamic Discourse, prepared in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Fatwa, had been signed by more than 1,800 Syrian scholars.
Shukri explained that the conference seeks to bring scholars from different intellectual schools together around common principles derived from the Quran and the Sunnah.
Call for implementation plans and follow-up mechanisms
Muhammad Muadh Abu Saleh, director of the Generation of the Quran Endowment, said the divisions facing the Ummah require more dialogue and a search for common ground, stressing the need for “practical implementation plans and follow-up mechanisms.” The opening session was attended by Union Secretary-General Ali al-Qaradaghi, along with a number of scholars and researchers.
