Türkiye celebrated the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the republic on October 29, and prominent landmarks across the Gulf and around the world were adorned with the Turkish flag for the occasion, from Dubai’s Burj Khalifa to Doha’s museums and towers.
In Doha, eight landmarks were illuminated in the colors of the Turkish flag at the initiative of the Turkish Embassy in Qatar: Al Jaber Towers, the Torch Tower, the Sheraton Hotel, Eitin Towers, Al Ferdan Tower, the Al Jasra Dome, the Museum of Islamic Art and the Qatar National Museum.

Burj Khalifa lit up with the crescent and star
In Dubai, Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building at 828 meters, was illuminated with the Turkish flag at 19:20 local time, the Turkish Consulate General in Dubai announced. Turkish citizens gathered at the tower and sang the Turkish national anthem, the “Independence March.”
The tower celebrates the national holidays of countries by illuminating its facade with their flags.
Galata Tower in Istanbul and a digital screen in New York
In Istanbul, the historic Galata Tower was bathed in red, while its stone facade displayed the crescent and star, the phrase “October 29, Republic Day” and an archival image from the years of the War of Independence.

In the United States, a digital screen at the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel linking New York and New Jersey displayed a congratulatory message to Türkiye for Republic Day alongside the Turkish flag and an image of the founder of the republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

In Georgia, the Tbilisi TV Tower was illuminated in the colors of the Turkish flag.
Atatürk’s portrait captured from space
The Turkish Defense Ministry released images captured by the Göktürk-1 Earth observation satellite showing a giant portrait and signature of Atatürk on the slopes of Mount Kesis, along with eight Turkish flags painted on mountains from the Mut district of Mersin province to Kahramanmaraş, and the crescent and star in the historic town of Harput in Elazığ province.

Republic Day is celebrated every year on October 29 to commemorate the declaration of the Republic of Türkiye in 1923 under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. In Ankara, a march took place from the Turkish Parliament building to the First Parliament building, while large crowds visited Atatürk’s mausoleum, Anıtkabir, throughout the day.
