Around 32,000 children from Türkiye visited the holy sites during the 2025–2026 Umrah season, as more families chose to perform Umrah with their children. Families are offered programs that introduce children to the holy sites in Mecca and Medina, the rituals of Umrah and the life of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, through age-appropriate activities.
Ziyaeddin Şahin, president of the Association of Hajj and Umrah Travel Agencies, said around 20,000 children traveled to the holy sites during the 2024–2025 season, rising to approximately 32,000 in the 2025–2026 season. He said agencies offer educational programs in which specialists explain Mecca, Medina, the Kaaba and the Prophet’s Mosque in language children can understand.

The programs include coloring activities featuring religious motifs, educational events, theatrical performances and guidance designed to increase children’s participation. Accompanied by guides, the children visit the Grand Mosque, circumambulate the Kaaba and learn about Arafat. In Medina, the programs include the Rawdah, the site of the Battle of Uhud and the Archers’ Mount.
Ahmet Sıddıki Abalıoğlu, an official at a Hajj and Umrah company, said the programs are designed for children aged 5 to 11 and use age-appropriate materials, booklets and games.
