A US-based survey examining views on the Palestinian issue found a clear difference between university students’ attitudes toward the Israeli government and the Palestinian people. Seventy-four percent of participants said they believed Israel had committed genocide against the Palestinian people.
The online survey was conducted in August 2026 by the Morris and Marlene Cohen Center for Jewish Studies at Brandeis University. A total of 3,989 students from 303 universities across the United States took part.
Support for Palestinians surpassed support for Israelis
Seventy-seven percent of students expressed a favorable view of the Palestinian people. The share expressing a favorable view of the Israeli people stood at 52%.
Forty-one percent held a favorable view of the Palestinian administration, while 15% expressed a favorable view of the Israeli government. Forty-six percent described their view of the Israeli government as “extremely unfavorable,” while 39% described it as “unfavorable.”
Support for a Palestinian state and self-determination
Eighty-two percent of participants supported Palestinians’ right to self-determination and to establish a Palestinian state. Twenty-five percent disagreed with the view that Israel had committed genocide against Palestinians.
Deaths continue in Gaza
Since the Gaza ceasefire took effect on October 10, 2025, 1,313 Palestinians have been killed and 4,361 injured in Israeli violations. The figures were attributed to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
More than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 174,000 injured in Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip, launched on October 8, 2023, with US support. Children and women made up the majority of those killed and injured.
In the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces have continued raids and detentions in cities, towns and refugee camps since the war in Gaza began, while settler attacks on Palestinians and their property have increased.
