Apple crossed a historic threshold on Wednesday, Oct. 14: its shares rose about 0.5% to a record close of $342.96, and its market value ended a trading day above $5 trillion for the first time, at about $5.01 trillion.
Capping the Cook era

The Wall Street Journal described the milestone as capping the era of Tim Cook, who led the company until the end of August. John Ternus became chief executive on Sept. 1, and the record came just six weeks into his tenure.
According to the paper, Apple first crossed $5 trillion intraday on July 28 and did so six times before it finally held the level into the close.

Second after Nvidia
Apple is now the second company to end a session above $5 trillion, after Nvidia, which got there first in October 2025 and remains the world’s most valuable company at about $5.3 trillion.
Apple’s gain came on a tough day for tech: the Nasdaq fell 1.88%, Nvidia about 3.2% and Microsoft about 1.8%.
