A ship grounding in the Dardanelles Strait briefly disrupted regional maritime traffic. The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure announced that north-south vessel traffic, suspended after the incident, had been resumed.
According to the ministry, the 190-meter-long dry cargo ship Pilatus Marine, en route from Syria to Russia, was flying the San Marino flag. The vessel ran aground at the Nara turn in the strait after experiencing engine failure.
Divers from the Directorate General of Coastal Safety conducted an inspection and found no damage to the vessel. A rescue operation was then launched.
"Under the coordination of our Çanakkale Strait Vessel Traffic Services Center, with a pilot captain on board, the operation was successfully completed with the participation of the KIYEM-1 boat and the KURTARMA-16 and KURTARMA-19 tugboats. After the vessel safely completed its strait passage, north-south vessel traffic in the Dardanelles was reopened."
Following the successful operation, the ship was refloated and maritime traffic in the strait returned to normal.
