Australia is launching legal action against messaging platform Telegram for failing to remove content related to terrorist acts. Australia's eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant announced that Telegram is accused of failing to detect, prevent, and block pro-terror content.
Grant said that in the case to be filed in federal court, they will argue that the platform did not remove content linked to terrorist incidents despite users reporting it. This content includes videos of the mosque attack in Christchurch, New Zealand, and a supermarket attack in the US.
The Australian official pointed out that such videos sometimes remained accessible on the platform even after three months. Inman Grant emphasized online safety, saying, "It is more important than ever for platforms to fulfill their responsibilities."
