Palestinians forced to leave their homes in the city of Hebron, in the southern occupied West Bank, held a protest on Sunday demanding permission to return home, as the Israeli army continued its military operation in the city for the 10th consecutive day.
Images showed a crowd of men and women standing opposite heavily armed Israeli soldiers and a military vehicle blocking the road leading to the besieged neighborhoods.

537 displaced families
Riyad Khamis, media official for the Support and Relief Committee in Hebron Governorate, told Anadolu Agency that about 537 families comprising nearly 3,300 people had been forced to leave their homes since the operation began. He added that the total number of people affected was estimated at about 5,000. The army continues to besiege the neighborhoods of al-Jalda, Ain Deir Bahha and Khallat al-Maghareba, where 213 families live under siege.

Daily losses of millions of shekels
According to Khamis, direct daily economic losses exceeded 12 million shekels ($3.8 million). A total of 327 shops and commercial facilities were completely closed, and 15 facilities were destroyed. The Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA) reported that about 80,000 male and female students were unable to attend their schools because of the operation.

The Israeli army began its operation in Hebron on October 23 following a shooting attack carried out by two Palestinians that killed two Israeli soldiers. Since then, it has imposed a closure on the city and surrounding villages, seized homes in the al-Jalda and Ain Deir Bahha neighborhoods, and converted them into military barracks.
