Iranian Foreign Minister Erakçi rejected a British statement accusing Iran in connection with the incident near RAF Fairford, which is used by the US military. Erakçi argued that the British authorities were investigating the incident in the wrong place.
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham had claimed that there were strong indications of an Iranian role in the incident. Rejecting the UK’s assessment, Erakçi questioned the release of people alleged to have been acting on behalf of foreign states.
Responding to Burnham’s statement that he had confirmed Britain’s assessment of the incident, Erakçi said he believed Iran’s release of people alleged to have been working for foreign states explained the situation.

85 homes evacuated near Fairford
In the village of Whelford next to RAF Fairford, where the incident took place, 85 homes were evacuated after three suspicious vehicles were found on Sunday, September 27.

Five British nationals in their 20s found in the vehicles were detained, while bomb disposal teams from the British Army were also sent to the area.
British authorities investigated whether the incident involved a risk of a terrorist attack targeting the base and an Iranian connection. Iran’s Embassy in London denied claims that the five detained people were connected to Iran.
The UK said the five people detained on suspicion of terrorism were later released on bail.
