The European Union has extended the mandate of EUBAM Rafah, operating at the Rafah border crossing in the Gaza Strip, and the mandate of the EUPOL COPPS police mission in the Palestinian territories until June 30, 2027.

The EU Council announced that the decision provides an additional nine-month mandate for the two missions. The extension follows a three-month technical extension approved on June 29.
Decision coordinated with Palestinian Authority and Israel
The EU Council said the decision to extend the missions’ mandates was taken in coordination with the Palestinian Authority and Israel.
In the conclusions of the EU summit held on June 18-19, EU leaders said they were ready to contribute to implementing the peace plan for Gaza through the EUBAM Rafah and EUPOL COPPS missions.
On June 26, 2025, the EU had extended the mandates of the two missions by one year.
Thousands crossed through Rafah
After Israel closed the Rafah border crossing last year, EUBAM Rafah personnel were unable to continue their activities and awaited developments in the region. The mission resumed its work on February 2.
Between February 2 and August 4, 4,929 people entered the Gaza Strip through the Rafah border crossing. During the same period, 5,199 people left Gaza, including 1,858 people who required medical treatment.
