Former Mossad chief Barnea becomes global chairman at US defense firm
Former head of Israel's Mossad, David Barnea, has been appointed global chairman of Ondas, a company developing autonomous systems and artificial intelligence-based defense solutions. Barnea will manage the company's global expansion, particularly in the Middle East and Europe.

US-based defense company Ondas announced the appointment of David Barnea, former head of Israel's intelligence service Mossad, as its global chairman.
The company stated that Barnea would lead the company's global expansion strategy, manage technology development processes, and oversee commercial integration operations.
Ondas CEO Eric Brock highlighted Barnea's exceptional expertise in modern operational experience, strategic vision, technological leadership, and international relations.
Company operations
According to Israeli newspaper Yisrael Hayom, Ondas, which is traded on Nasdaq, develops autonomous systems and artificial intelligence-based defense solutions. The company's focus areas include air defense, intelligence, precision strikes, and ground robots.
Barnea's Mossad background
The newspaper wrote that David Barnea served as head of Mossad between 2021 and 2026, during which time the organization underwent a complex period, including direct conflicts with Iran and Hezbollah.
Before Mossad, Barnea served in the elite Israeli military intelligence unit Sayeret Matkal, and gained experience in mergers and acquisitions in the private sector. He holds a bachelor's degree in business from the New York Institute of Technology and a master's degree from Pace University.
Barnea told Yisrael Hayom, “The nature of combat in the Middle East and Europe is rapidly changing. Operational superiority now depends on integrating intelligence, artificial intelligence, and autonomous platforms in a combined environment.”
The newspaper reported that as global chairman, Barnea is expected to focus on developing strategic relationships with governments and security institutions in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia, and identifying new technologies for investment.
Barnea's term at Mossad ended after completing a five-year term that began in June 2021. He was replaced by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's military secretary, Roman Gofman. It was noted that the appointment sparked controversy within Israel's security establishment because Gofman came from outside Mossad.
