Ran Baratz, a former adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said the Turks brought down Bashar al-Assad’s regime and that "that was not to our benefit."

"Assad was more convenient for us. Assad was not aggressive, and he was a very convenient conduit for proxies, for Hezbollah," Baratz said on a podcast.

His remarks reflect a debate in Israel over the security consequences of Assad’s fall in December 2024 and Türkiye’s growing role in Syria. Ankara denies having a direct role in the offensive that toppled Assad.
