Former U.S. President Bill Clinton said he was tired of Muslims being insulted simply for being Muslim, in remarks delivered on October 21 at Koinonia Church in Hollywood, Florida, during an event supporting Democratic candidate for governor David Jolly.
Clinton, 80, explained that he first heard the verse from his daughter, who read the entire Quran at age 15. He added that God did not create people to be different so they could despise one another, but so that they could get to know and learn from one another.
His remarks echo verse 13 of Surah Al-Hujurat: “O mankind, We created you from a male and a female and made you peoples and tribes so that you may know one another.”
“Every religion has bad people because we are all imperfect human beings,” Clinton said, adding that he was tired of religious wars and culture wars.
