Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a phone call with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, during which they discussed regional developments, efforts to reduce tensions in the region and the continuation of bilateral contacts between the two countries, Turkish Foreign Ministry sources said.
Ankara ready to delimit maritime boundaries with Egypt

The call came on the same day that Türkiye’s Defense Ministry announced Ankara’s readiness to sign an agreement with Egypt delimiting maritime jurisdiction areas, following the Libyan House of Representatives’ approval of the maritime memorandum of understanding signed by Türkiye and Libya in 2019. The ministry said that under such an agreement, Egypt would gain a maritime area more than 15,000 square kilometers larger than it would under a potential agreement with Greece.
Intensified contacts between the ministers this year
Contacts between Fidan and Abdelatty intensified this year over issues including Gaza, tensions between the United States and Iran, and regional security. The first meeting of the countries’ High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council was held in Cairo in February 2026.
The two countries’ naval forces are preparing to conduct the “Sea of Friendship 2026” exercises in Alexandria, reflecting growing military cooperation between Ankara and Cairo.
